I make complex workflows feel obvious.
I'm Sunny Kumar. For 8+ years I've turned data heavy, high stakes digital products into experiences people understand at first glance. Lately that means designing with AI, not only for it.

"I'd rather be known as an empath than a designer. The screens are just where the solution shows up."
Design is an obsession for me, and I'll happily take on the extra responsibility to get the work right.
The story so far
Every journey taught me something that I still use today.

Where it started
IIT Guwahati, Bachelor of Design (2013 to 2017)
Design was an obsession long before it was a job title. At IIT Guwahati I learned to see every problem as a system of people, context and constraints.
Those years gave me my first proof points: a win at the OZCHI 2015 Student Design Challenge with SocioTags, a research paper published from my game design work with TCS and an internship building a B2B tablet app at Max Life Insurance.
What I carried forward: Start with people, context, find out people's problem, then pick the tool.

First design job
CGI, UX Designer (2017-2018)
At CGI, I joined as a UX designer and worked on Digital Advisor for North American audience. Apart from this, I have played a role of UX Researcher for a project from Department of Environmental Protection, State of New Jersey. Enterprise software taught me patience with complexity and respect for the people who use a tool all day, every day.
What I carried forward: Complexity is fine. Confusion isn't. Emotions play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience.

Owning B2B & B2C products
Decimal Technologies, UX Designer (2018-2020)
Designing a lead management solution showed me how much of good B2B UX is simply helping someone decide what to do next, and getting out of their way while they do it.
What I carried forward: User studies based on the customer type. Good B2B design answers one question: what now?

Design at media scale
Hindustan Times, UI/UX Designer (2020)
A UX audit of the Hindustan Times app put me in front of a very large, very habitual audience. Speed, clarity and consistency stopped being nice to haves.
What I carried forward: Design for speed and habit, not for show.

Stepping into leadership
Times Internet, UX Design Manager 1 (2020-2022)
At Times Internet I shaped Times Card onboarding and a neo banking experience and started leading designers. I learned that leading is mostly clearing the path so other people's best work can happen.
What I carried forward: Craft earns trust. Clear paths keep it.

AI meets accounting
Docyt, Senior Product Designer (2022-2026)
At Docyt I designed AI-powered accounting workflows: onboarding, expenses, integrations, the design system and tools like Docyt Copilot.
The hardest problem was month-end close, a stressful ritual spread across tabs and spreadsheets. We turned it into a clear path where AI handles the routine and bookkeepers make the calls with confidence.
What I carried forward: Let AI handle the routine. Keep people in charge of the calls.

Designing with AI
Present
These days I treat AI as a design material. I prototype with Claude and Lovable, think out loud with Gemini, ChatGPT and still sketch the hard parts in Figma.
The tools change every month. The questions don't: what does this person need to decide and what can the product take off their plate?
What I carried forward: Tools change monthly. The questions stay the same.
How I work
Three habits that show up in every work,
from a bank workflow to an AI copilot.
Make the next step obvious
If a person has to stop and think about what to click, I haven't finished. I design interfaces that feel intuitive because the path is already clear.
Let AI do the routine, humans make the calls
Automation earns trust when it shows its work and hands over the decisions that need judgment. I design that handoff on purpose.
Own the outcome, not just the screens or deliverables
I pick up extra responsibility, ask the awkward questions early and stay agile until the quality bar is met.
Beyond the screen
Cricket, travel, music, a little photography and a habit of trying every new piece of technology I can get my hands on.
